May 14 Toronto, OISE University of Toronto Fortieth anniversary of the publication of Living and Learning, the report of the Provincial Committee on Aims and Objectives of Education in the Schools of Ontario (commonly known as the Hall-Dennis Report) Nipissing University, the Ontario Association of Deans of Education, the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education and the Ministry of Education have collaborated to sponsor a public forum. Taking place on the morning of May 14th (8:45am - 12pm) at OISE’s auditorium, 10 of the original committee members will be attending. Short speeches will be given by Dr. Edison Quick (Secretary and Research Director of the Committee), Joan Woodcock, Leo Seguin and Ernie Checkeris (members), Kel Crossley (Ministry of Education Representative on the Committee and later Director of Curriculum), and Lloyd Dennis (Co-Chair of the Committee). Earth Day Canada is challenging kids across Canada to take action and contribute to a healthier environment in their schools, homes and communities by entering in The Great EcoKids Challenge. The Great EcoKids Challenge is a nationwide contest, providing schools, extra-curricular clubs, and youth groups with an opportunity to participate in a large-scale group activity that will improve the state of their schools and communities, and ultimately, the health of the environment. The grand prize winners receive digital cameras for their individual EcoKids club members* and a BRAVIA LCD TV for their school. Second place winners receive Walkman video MP3 players for their individual club members*, and third place winners receive Walkman MP3 players for their individual club members*. This yearÂ’s contest deadline is May 16th 2008. For more information on how to participate, check out ecokids.ca.
