In a recent Toronto District School Board survey of students from Grade 7 to 12:

  • The top four reasons students listed as factors preventing them from finishing their homework were: Spending time with friends, difficulty of the homework, frequent distractions at home and sports or recreation activities.
  • One in three (30%) of the high school students had no one to turn to for homework assistance outside of school.

    In 2007, the Canadian Council on Learning released the results of their annual survey of Canadian attitudes toward learning, a survey of more than 5,000 Canadians. Among the findings:

    • One-third of parents have hired a tutor.
    • Household income is the strongest predictor of parents' decisions to hire tutors.
