Healthy active kids!

Physical, emotional and mental health are key predictors of future quality of life for our kids.

Here's a great tip sheet for parents! It provides information about what students learn in Health and Physical Education, explains why Daily Physical Activity is vital, and has lots of great ideas about advocating for physical education in schools.

Working together for healthy kids!

The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario has launched a new community initiative called SPARK Together for Healthy Kids™.

The challenge ahead

Unhealthy diets and physical inactivity are leading to unprecedented rates of childhood obesity, a serious problem that will affect not just the children of today, but generations to come. This is the first generation of children that may not live as long as their parents.

People for Education is a partner in the SPARK initiative. You can find out more and show support for this initiative by signing on at www.heartandstroke.ca/spark

Looking for solutions

Community and parent groups can apply for funding for projects to help find solutions. SPARK Together for HealthyKids™ is hoping to have a wide range of community groups working to create real, positive change in health behaviours of Ontario children.

Groups can apply for Advocacy Development Projects to help them plan and develop strategies that support increased access to physical activity and/or healthy food for Ontario children (up to $5,000).

There are also grants for Community Advocacy Action Projects to support groups engaging in activities that lead to policy level change and increased physical activity and/or healthy food for Ontario children (up to $25,000 for one-year projects).

Submission dates are May 1 and Nov. 1. You can find out more about applying on their website.
