School councils are one way that parents can use their skills and experience to support their children’s school.
Our expert panel of regional chairs facilitated this workshop to discuss three main areas of challenge:
Fundraising and funding for school councils
School council operational guidelines and support for roles of members
Parent Involvement Committees: Role, membership, representation and support to school councils
Paticipants shared both their school council challenges as well as best practices in their schools.
Sheila Stewart: Past Chair, Lakehead Council of School Council Chairs, CSCC rep on the PIC. Having seen the benefits of community spirit and parental involvement to the students of a school, Sheila was drawn to school council involvement at all levels.
