Parents
FAQ: Teachers / Teaching

Q: Are parent-teacher interviews important?

A: Yes they are very important. Parent-teacher interviews are held two or three times a year. They are great opportunities for parents and teachers to talk together about how to help each child succeed in school. They are usually very short - 10 or 15 minutes. Our parent-teacher interview tip sheet has some great ideas about what to ask as well as things to share about your child.

Q:  How can I find out if my child’s teacher is qualified to teach in Ontario?

A:  Anyone who teaches in Ontario’s public schools must be certified by the Ontario College of Teachers.  You can check the qualifications of your teacher by visiting the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) website at → www.oct.ca, using the “Find a Teacher” function.  You can find out:

  • the teacher’s qualifications (including any additional qualifications they have earned)
  • the date of the teacher’s initial certification
  • the teacher’s current status with the College
  • the teacher’s disciplinary history (if applicable)
